The Work-Life Balance…Have You Got It?

There’s only one way to find out

1. Have you forgotten what sunlight looks like?

2. Do you eat lunch at your desk, if you even eat it at all?

3. Are you making more stupid mistakes?

4. Have friends given up on asking you out?

5. Relationships? They’re a thing of the past.

6. Alcohol is now a form of therapy

7. Logging your time has become a full time job in itself.

8. Your favourite line is: “ if you want something doing properly, do it yourself.”

9. Even at the weekends, you check your email more than you check Facebook

10. Your favourite Youtube videos are epic job resignations.

If you answered yes to the above questions or you didn’t even make it to 5 without checking your emails, the chances are, you’ve not quite got that work-life balance.

So we’ve come up with some simple tips that will get you on the road to recovery:

Decide what’s important.

People who can’t balance their work and life try to do it all, treating everything as a number one priority. This just isn’t sustainable. Decide what’s urgent and important and grade tasks based on these factors. You’ve got to draw the line somewhere.

Focus on the things only you can do.

It’s hard to believe, but other people can do parts of your job. Identify tasks that no one else can do and share the rest.

Start a hobby that requires commitment.

The gym just won’t cut it so book a month’s worth of classes and pay in advance or join a team that depends on you to turn up. Go for activities that will make it harder for you to bail on last minute.

Take a look at yourself.

If you’re not giving your down time the respect it deserves, you’re probably also living off Wotsits and Pot Noodles. Try to introduce more healthy foods in to your diet and start cooking again.

Get your friends involved.

Peer pressure works. They won’t let you say no to Friday night drinks or an after work bike ride.
